The Virgin Group

Beginning to discover how awesome Richard Branson and The Virgin Group are.

The company that I think I'm most attracted to, so far, is Virgin Limited Edition, Richard's "collection of stunning retreats". My favorite is probably Necker Island, Mr. Branson's home and private retreat in the British Virgin Islands. After spending 10-days sailing the waters of the BVI during the low season, I can see why anyone would want to make this magnificent place their home. (click here to check out my adventure) I wonder if he ever makes his way to Trellis Bays Full Moon Party?
Check out Virgin Limited Edition here, Necker Island's website here and Richard's blog here
Next stop, purchase and read, "Losing My Virginity"!

advance confidently in the direction of your dreams

"I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours."

— Henry David Thoreau

very is lazy

So avoid using the word ‘very’ because it’s lazy. A man is not very tired, he is exhausted. Don’t use very sad, use morose. Language was invented for one reason, boys - to woo women - and, in that endeavor, laziness will not do.

—Dead Poets Society

pure mind

"We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves."

fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself

My heart is afraid that it will have to suffer," the boy told the alchemist one night as they looked up at the moonless sky. "Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams."

thank you zooey

Being tender and open is beautiful. As a woman, I feel continually shhh’ed. Too sensitive. Too mushy. Too wishy washy. Blah blah. Don’t let someone steal your tenderness. Don’t allow the coldness and fear of others to tarnish your perfectly vulnerable beating heart. Nothing is more powerful than allowing yourself to truly be affected by things. Whether it’s a song, a stranger, a mountain, a rain drop, a tea kettle, an article, a sentence, a footstep, feel it all – look around you. All of this is for you. Take it and have gratitude. Give it and feel love.

I Will Wait

Sometimes you're just waiting for the right song to come out and out your feelings to words. I'm done waiting.

I Will Wait is Mumford & Son's first single released off their new album Babel that hits stores September 24th.

Raising Children

As we get older we start to contemplate children and parenting. It still seems like a scary thought to me but after reading this article by Madeline Levine in the Sunday New York Times, I want to remember this:

"One of the most important things we do for our children is to present them with a version of adult life that is appealing and worth striving for."

Music vs Lyrics

"When you're happy, you enjoy the music.
But when you're sad, you understand the lyrics."

The Answer

Discovered another beautiful blog called Pennyweight and found this quote:

"I beg you to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don't search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future you will gradually, without even noticing, live your way into the answer."

-Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters To A Young Poet

Confusing Painting

"Somersaulting towards sleep my mind tumbles with wonderful visions"

This is a painting my friend found at a thrift store in the hamptons. Took us forever to figure it out but we finally did.

hm.

I ain't saying you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right.

horoscopes

I always love reading my horoscopes and attempting to make some sense of my life. But, sometimes nothing is more strange when it completely speaks the truth. Free People has been posting weekly horoscopes and as an avid follower of their blog, I'm always up-to-date. After dealing with some difficult issues it was eerily comforting to see how my horoscope completely dictated my life word for word.

TAURUS

April 20-May 20
Listen to your instincts this week when a dramatic eclipse hits your sexuality and resources zones, bringing issues concerning value in relationships to the surface. You feel undervalued by your guy (or girl) or a friend—or you realize you have different values and want different things. Take notice of how your personal life might be at odds with your self-worth. As uncomfortable as this revelation is, it’s important to digest it. Mercury moves into your cognitive sector later in the week and harmonizes with compassionate Neptune in your friend sector, paving the way for a healing conversation with a sensitive pal.

love is blindness

Story: Last week my sister sent me a link to the Great Gatsby movie trailer, which don't get my wrong looks amazing, however all I could think about was that amazing song in the background. Of course after flurried research leave it up to U2 to make such an intense song with not only thought provoking lyrics but a great thumping beat. THEN I realize it is a Jack White cover. So we go from great trailer to great song to great cover. What a wonderful day.

ps. today I found the music video..sigh

beautiful soul

it's amazing that even through all the hardship, a young girl could still see the world through such kind and mature eyes. this should be a daily reminder things aren't always as bad as they seem, even when it feels like your world is falling apart. there is always going to be something beautiful to make us smile.

i am a person of action

"Successful people make their decisions quickly and change their minds slowly. Failures make their decisions slowly and change their minds quickly"

This is from the book The Travelers Gift by Andy Andrews. Every time I pick up this book again, I ask myself why I still haven't finished it. I had never heard of it until my sister brought it home one day. She had never heard of it either, but just randomly picked it up in Barnes and Noble. Who knew it was such a famous book! If you are unfamiliar the book is about a successful executive who then becomes desperate. As he travels on this incredible journey he discovers the seven decisions for success. Read it.

don't think twice, it's alright
